PROGRAM OVERVIEW

This educational initiative is designed to improve CVD outcomes through optimal management of CHD risk factors. Special emphasis will be placed on lipid lowering in African American patients with multiple risk factors, including dyslipidemia, hypertension, and diabetes.

The burden of CVD and CHD risk in African Americans warrants more effective achievement of recommended treatment goals. Also, improved provider communication of treatment goals and their importance to patients is crucial.

As part of the overall theme, the program will include a clinical trials workshop addressing the fundamental principles involved in the design and conduct of a clinical trial. The importance of racial and ethnic diversity of participants in clinical trials will also be discussed.
