The Association of Black Cardiologists in partnership with the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) will convene its third Community Health Advocates Training Program July 23-25 in Washington, DC. The Community Health Advocacy Training program takes place over three days and focuses on the NHBLI “With Every Heartbeat is Life” curriculum. This training program assists ABC in meeting our commitment to increase awareness, knowledge, and skills for preventing and controlling heart disease risk factors and to prepare advocates to build coalitions to improve African American cardiovascular health at local and state levels.
Those interested in applying for the Community Health Advocates Training:
After completing, submitting, and review of the application, accepted applicants will receive:
- A travel grant of round-trip transportation to Washington, DC for non-metro DC residents, two (2) nights single occupancy lodging accommodations at the host hotel;
- Training materials to implement programs in their home areas,
- Tools to aid in Identifying and effectively communicate effectively with key legislators at the local, state, and federal level, community leaders and agency administrators, as well as other advocates, regarding specific cardiovascular health issues; and
- The support of ABC to provide effective and measurable programs that improve advocacy, increase awareness about heart disease Identify and communicate effectively with key legislators at the local, state, and federal level, community leaders and agency administrators, as well as other advocates, regarding specific cardiovascular health issues.
