Michael L. Weamer, CAE

 

Michael L. Weamer is President and CEO of The Marfan Foundation, the only nonprofit organization in the U.S. that funds research, provides patient support, and conducts public and medical education to create a brighter future for everyone affected by Marfan syndrome and related disorders. Michael had previously served as a Board advisor to The Marfan Foundation and was honored with the Foundation’s Hero with a Heart Award in 2009.

Marfan syndrome is a life-threatening genetic disorder of the body's connective tissue. It affects the heart and blood vessels, bones, and eyes. Knowing the signs is the key to early and accurate diagnosis and life-saving treatment.

Michael joined The Marfan Foundation after 25 years with the American Heart Association (AHA), where he most recently served as the Executive Vice President of the Founders Affiliate, a $70 million organization serving the Northeast. Previously, he was President of the National Society to Prevent Blindness and served as an affiliate Executive Director of the National Easter Seal Society.

Michael is Chair of the Board of Directors of the New York Society of Association Executives and serves on the Board of Directors of the Association of Black Cardiologists. In addition, he has served as vice chairman of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), Treasurer of the Hudson Guild Settlement House and is a past director of the International Council of Shopping Centers Foundation. Michael also served as Chairman of Health Power, a nationally unique non-profit organization committed to minority health improvement.

Michael has received the Inspiration of Excellence, Outstanding Association Executive and Distinguished Service awards of the New York Society of Association Executives. In his spare time Michael is a licensed Coast Guard Captain.

Michael is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University with a degree in Human Development. He and his wife, Karen, have four children, Mollie, Caitlin, Sean, and Daniel and a grandchild, Max.
