Dr. Nwaukwa graduated from the University of Nigeria Medical School. He completed his residency at The Cook County hospital in Chicago, where he also served as the President of the 400 member Strong House Staff Association in 2000. Dr. Nwaukwa completed his Cardiology fellowship at the Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, IL where he also served as the Chief Cardiology Fellow in 2003/2004. He trained in Interventional Cardiology at the University of Illinois at Chicago, which was supported by the ABC Interventional Fellowship Scholarship. Dr. Nwaukwa served as the Fellows Representative to the ABC Board of Directors in 2004.

Dr. Nwaukwa is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Medicine, Interventional Cardiology and Nuclear Cardiology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and also a Fellow of the Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions. He specializes in Complex Coronary and Peripheral Interventions.

Dr. Nwaukwa is currently in private practice in Beaumont, Texas as an Interventional Cardiologist. He is on staff at both the Baptist Hospital of South East Texas and Beaumont, Texas where he has served as Chair of the Cardiovascular and Critical Care section and at the Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital. He introduced Radial Artery Catheterization and Intervention at these hospitals before it became a national standard.

Dr. Nwaukwa loves to relax in his spare time by engaging in long distance bike riding, tennis and golf. He is married to Ebele Nwaukwa and enjoys being a father to his three young children
